RF Microneedling Treatment

At Revita Skin Clinic our highly experienced cosmetic doctor performs RF Microneedling treatments

What is RF Microneedling Treatment?

RF microneedling, or microneedling with radiofrequency, combines fine needles with controlled radiofrequency energy to address selected skin concerns after assessment. It may help improve the appearance of lines, acne scarring, enlarged pores, textural irregularities, and areas of laxity. During the procedure, very fine needles create microchannels while delivering energy to deeper layers of the skin. This targeted approach is intended to stimulate a wound healing response.

RF microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure performed by trained practitioners using medical devices intended for this purpose. Suitability, treatment settings, and the number of sessions are determined during consultation. Treatment plans are individualised and outcomes vary from person to person.

Collagen and Elastin Considerations

Collagen and elastin support skin structure and elasticity. RF microneedling is designed to stimulate these components in some people, which may improve firmness and texture over time. Responses differ according to skin type, treatment parameters, and aftercare. No specific result can be guaranteed.

Cell Turnover and Microchannels

By creating controlled micro-injuries, RF microneedling can encourage normal cell turnover. The microchannels may also be used, where appropriate, to apply topical products as advised by your practitioner. Any adjuncts, including platelet rich plasma, are discussed on a case by case basis with benefits and risks explained before proceeding.

Treatment Areas

RF microneedling can be considered for the face and selected body areas such as the neck, décolletage, arms, abdomen, and thighs. Delicate areas, including periocular or upper lip skin, require careful assessment and conservative settings. Your practitioner will advise on suitability and expected downtime for each area.

Common Concerns Addressed

  • Age related changes: May soften the appearance of fine lines and support improved texture.
  • Sun related changes: Can assist with visible effects of sun exposure in a broader plan that includes sun protection.
  • Scarring: May improve the look of acne scars and selected other scars over a series of sessions.
  • Pores: Can reduce the appearance of enlarged pores for some people.
  • Stretch marks: May help blend and soften the visibility of stretch marks with staged treatment.
  • Skin tightening: Can improve the look of mild laxity in areas such as the neck, cheeks, or jawline where appropriate.

Expectations and Results

Changes are typically gradual as collagen remodels over weeks to months. Some people notice early improvement in texture and tone with progressive refinement after subsequent sessions. Results vary based on skin characteristics, treatment intensity, and adherence to aftercare. Your practitioner will discuss realistic outcomes for your skin.

What Sets RF Microneedling Apart?

Depth and Control

The technique delivers energy beneath the surface at controlled depths, which is intended to optimise collagen stimulation while limiting surface disruption. Precise needle arrays and adjustable settings allow treatment to be tailored to specific concerns and areas.

Comprehensive Rejuvenation

By combining mechanical needling with radiofrequency energy, RF microneedling aims to address both texture and firmness. It may be incorporated into a broader plan that can include skin care, sun protection, and other modalities as recommended by your practitioner.

Treatment Course and Aftercare

  • Number of sessions: Many people require a series of sessions spaced several weeks apart. Your plan is personalised.
  • Aftercare: Gentle cleansing, moisturising as advised, and strict sun protection are important. Avoid picking or exfoliating until cleared by your practitioner.
  • Makeup and activities: Light makeup may be used once the skin surface is intact. Your practitioner will advise when to resume exercise, heat exposure, or active skin products.

Information on this page is general in nature and does not replace an in person consultation. Individual suitability, risks, costs, and alternatives will be discussed with an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Risks and Recovery

All procedures carry risks. Your practitioner will explain these in a consultation and provide written aftercare. Possible side effects and risks include redness, swelling, pinpoint bleeding, bruising, warmth or tenderness, dryness or flaking, temporary darkening or lightening of the skin, acne flare, infection, delayed healing, scarring, burns, textural irregularities, allergic reactions, unsatisfactory cosmetic outcome, and the need for additional treatments. Rare complications can occur.

Recovery experiences vary. Many people experience redness for one to three days, with mild swelling or sensitivity that settles over several days. Strict sun protection is essential during healing to reduce the risk of pigment change. Seek prompt advice if you notice increasing pain, spreading redness, discharge, fever, or any unexpected change at the treatment site.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
