Laser Hair Removal

Treatments are delivered by trained clinicians using a medical laser system and can be tailored for different skin types and many body areas following assessment.

Laser hair reduction is designed to target the pigment in hair follicles to reduce future growth. Our system also uses a cooling feature intended to help protect the skin and improve comfort during treatment. Suitability, settings and the treatment plan are determined at consultation based on your hair colour, skin type and medical history. Individual responses and outcomes vary.

Laser is most effective on darker, pigmented hairs that are in the active growth phase. Because hair grows in cycles, multiple sessions are typically required for a meaningful long-term reduction in growth. Laser is unlikely to be effective for white, grey, very light blonde or red hairs. As a general guide, many people need a course of around 8 to 12 sessions depending on the area, with maintenance as advised.

Pre Care

  • Avoid sun exposure, fake tan and solarium use for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment. Use broad spectrum SPF50+ daily on exposed areas.
  • Advise us of any medications, recent procedures or skin changes before your appointment.
  • Pause strong actives such as retinoids and glycolic exfoliants for 3 days before treatment unless otherwise directed.
  • Shave the area the night before or the morning of your appointment. Do not wax, pluck or use depilatory creams before treatment because the hair root is needed for the laser to work.

Please note:

If shaving has not been completed before your appointment, an in clinic shaving service may be arranged. Please let reception know at the time of booking so adequate time can be scheduled. A separate fee of $50 applies.

Post Care

  • It is common to feel mild warmth and see temporary redness in treated areas shortly after your session. This usually settles over several hours.
  • Apply a gentle cooling gel or lotion as recommended by your clinician to soothe the skin for up to 5 days after treatment. Keep the area clean and well hydrated.
  • From day 5, your clinician may suggest introducing a gentle exfoliant to help reduce ingrown hairs and support normal shedding. Use only as directed.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 2 weeks after treatment. Wear protective clothing and apply broad spectrum SPF50+ to exposed skin every day.
  • If you have a darker skin type or a history of pigmentation, your clinician may recommend a pigment care product between sessions. Use only products advised for your skin, starting 3 days after treatment and pausing 3 days before your next session.

Risks and Recovery

All cosmetic procedures carry risks. With laser hair reduction, possible effects include redness, swelling around follicles, mild discomfort, temporary heat sensations, dryness, itching, crusting, acne flares, ingrown hairs, and rare blistering. There is a risk of pigment changes such as darkening or lightening, especially with recent sun exposure or darker skin types. Less common risks include burns, infection, scarring, and paradoxical hair growth. Cold sore reactivation can occur in susceptible individuals when treating facial areas. Multiple sessions are usually required, results are not guaranteed, and maintenance may be needed. Recovery time differs by person and body area. A consultation with an appropriately qualified health professional is required to assess suitability, discuss alternatives and expected outcomes, explain risks and costs, and provide personalised aftercare instructions.
