Facial Volume Loss Treatment

These treatments may help restore facial volume and balance features after an individual consultation.

Facial volume loss treatment is used to add volume, support contours and improve symmetry for a refreshed appearance. Suitability, expected results and alternatives are discussed with a registered medical practitioner before any treatment is provided. This approach can be considered for concerns such as lip shape or volume, cheek support and selected lines. It may also be part of a plan to address deeper creases, or to refine jawline or chin proportions in suitable adults.

Facial volume loss treatment can be considered for:

  • Tear trough appearance in selected candidates following assessment
  • Enhancing cheek definition and midface support
  • Gentle nasal bridge refinement in carefully selected cases
  • Smile lines or laughter lines, where appropriate
  • Lip treatment for volume, shape and definition
  • Fine lines around the lips
  • Improving facial balance where asymmetry is present, and selected acne scarring concerns following assessment

There are different product types and techniques used for facial volume loss treatment. Your practitioner will recommend an option suited to your goals, skin, and medical history at your initial consultation. In some cases, wrinkle treatment and facial volume loss treatment may be combined as part of a personalised plan. Results, number of sessions and how long effects are maintained vary between individuals.

What should I do after my facial volume loss treatment?

  • Mild swelling is common immediately after treatment. A clean, wrapped cold compress may be used for short intervals if recommended by your practitioner.
  • Sleep with your head slightly elevated on the first night if advised, and avoid pressure on the treated area.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and excessive heat for 24 to 48 hours unless your practitioner advises otherwise.
  • Limit alcohol on the day of treatment and use gentle skincare. Avoid makeup on treated areas for the remainder of the day unless otherwise advised.
  • Protect your skin from sun exposure and follow all personalised aftercare instructions provided at your appointment.

Some redness, tenderness and swelling can occur and usually settles over several days. Bruising is possible. Do not stop any prescribed medicines, including blood thinners, unless your doctor has advised you to do so. Please inform your practitioner about all medicines and supplements you take so that risks can be assessed.

Risks and Recovery

  • Important information: All procedures carry risks and are not suitable for everyone. A face-to-face consultation is required to determine suitability. Services are for adults aged 18 years and over. Individual outcomes vary and cannot be guaranteed.
  • Common effects: Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, itching, and firmness at the site can occur. Small lumps may be felt as the area settles. Asymmetry may be present while swelling resolves.
  • Less common but serious risks: Infection, delayed inflammation, nodules, biofilm, allergic reaction, ulceration, vessel compromise, and tissue damage can occur. Very rare complications include visual changes, blindness, stroke or scarring. Immediate assessment is required if you experience severe pain, pale or dusky skin, mottling, worsening swelling, increasing redness, fever, or visual symptoms. Contact the clinic urgently or seek emergency medical care.
  • Contraindications and precautions: Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Caution is required with autoimmune or connective tissue disorders, recent or planned dental work, active skin infection, bleeding disorders, or if you have a history of keloid scarring. Tell your practitioner about all medical conditions and every medicine and supplement you use, including topical products.
  • Recovery and follow-up: Most people return to normal activities soon after treatment, allowing for temporary swelling or bruising. A review may be scheduled so your practitioner can assess your response and discuss any further care. Maintenance, if appropriate, will be discussed during consultation.
